Understanding Montgomery County Releases
A release is an event, not a single universal document. At Montgomery County Jail, the event may sit within the booking record. A court file may record the bond, dismissal, sentence, probation order, or other authority behind departure. Missouri Department of Corrections records use different terms for release from prison, conditional release, parole, and final discharge. Each record answers a narrower question. The sheriff can confirm the jail-door event, while the court explains the legal case and the state corrections system describes a prison term or supervision.
Montgomery County released inmates usually leave the current-custody view after processing. That absence proves only that the person is not shown in that view. It does not reveal whether the person went home, entered another jail, transferred to state prison, left on bond, completed a sentence, or moved under another authority. The correct next step is to match the person, booking, case, time, legal reason, and destination. A release to the community and a transfer both end local jail custody, but only one ends confinement.
Montgomery County Release Types
The mechanism determines which source should be checked next. Bond permits departure while the criminal case continues. Time served or sentence completion may end the jail term, though supervision or another case can remain. A dismissal may remove one legal basis for custody but will not clear an unrelated hold. Probation generally comes from a court instead of prison release. Parole and conditional release move a person from prison to supervised community status. A transfer changes custodians and is not a community release.
| Release event | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | The case continues after approved release processing. | Sheriff release record and Case.net |
| Time served or completion | The recorded jail term has ended. | Release event, judgment, and sentence entries |
| Dismissal or court order | A judge or prosecutor changed the basis for custody. | Case.net plus the actual jail departure record |
| Probation | The court allows community supervision under stated terms. | Court order and Probation and Parole |
| Parole or conditional release | Prison confinement ends while legal custody or supervision continues. | MODOC, Parole Board, and field office records |
| Transfer | Another jail, MODOC, federal, medical, or immigration authority receives custody. | Receiving custodian and transfer field |
- Time served
- Credit or confinement satisfies the term the court required.
- Parole
- The Parole Board permits supervised release before the maximum sentence ends.
- Probation
- A court orders supervision in the community, often instead of imprisonment.
- Discharge
- Final discharge ends DOC status, unlike release from prison to supervision.
Montgomery County Release Record Fields
The Montgomery County Sheriff does not publish a local release-record data dictionary. A request should therefore ask for existing fields instead of declaring that a standard report contains every item. Identity and booking fields connect the departure to the right person and event. Time identifies when the jail recorded the release. Disposition and destination distinguish a community release from a transfer. Bond and case fields help connect the jail entry to the court action.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Full name and booking number | Which booking the event belongs to |
| Booking date and time | The start of the identified jail episode |
| Arresting or committing authority | Which office placed the person in custody |
| Charge or case number | The link to the matching judicial record |
| Release date and time | The jail's recorded departure point, if maintained |
| Release disposition or reason | Bond, completion, court order, transfer, or another coded event |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether custody continued elsewhere |
| Bond information | The payment or bond tied to the booking |
| Booking photograph | The image attached to the booking, subject to review |
Ask the custodian to identify any field that is not kept, no longer retained, closed, or redacted. The web display and underlying agency record are not the same thing. A Weekly Booking Report may vanish from a menu while the booking and release event remains governed by an agency retention schedule. The sheriff has not published an archive window or local retention chart, so no fixed period should be assumed.
Request Montgomery County Release Records
The sheriff's Administrative Division lists Open Records Requests among its duties. The page gives no dedicated request form, records email, fee schedule, or retention chart. Call the main office first and ask for the current submission route. A narrow request is easier to identify than a demand for every record about a person.
- Identify the full name and the specific booking number or approximate booking date. Add a case number when known.
- Ask for existing booking and release or disposition records, naming the release date, release type, destination, bond, case, and photograph fields needed.
- Request electronic delivery when available and ask for a cost estimate before work begins above a stated amount.
- If material is withheld or redacted, ask for the specific legal basis and a written denial explanation.
- Compare the response with the matching court case and any receiving-agency record.
Administrative Division, Open Records Requests
211 East Third Street
Montgomery City, MO 63361
Main office: 573-564-8084
Missouri section 610.023 requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day. Action can be an explanation and the earliest availability date, not necessarily completed production. Section 610.026 permits actual costs in defined categories. Paper copies no larger than 9 by 14 inches are capped at ten cents per page, while research, digital work, and photographic records can involve other allowed costs. Prepayment may be required.
The official Administrative Division page shown below confirms where Montgomery County open-record work belongs.
The screenshot establishes the office function, but it does not supply a request email, a local fee list, or a promised production date.
Montgomery County Release Record Law
Missouri's Sunshine Law creates the request process but does not override every confidentiality rule. Juvenile, expunged, sealed, medical, safety-sensitive, and active-investigative material may be closed or redacted. Section 610.100 generally opens arrest and incident reports subject to its limits. If an arrest does not lead to a charge within the statutory period, much of the arrest report may close while the disposition portion remains available.
Closed is not the same as destroyed. Section 610.120 directs that closed records be kept separately and confidentially, subject to statutory exceptions.
An eligible person may petition for expungement under section 610.140. The law has waiting criteria, excluded offenses, filing requirements, and other conditions. A closed case may disappear from ordinary Case.net access even though a government office keeps a confidential record. The effect on a copied photograph or another holder's record must be assessed with that holder and the governing law. A missing online result is not proof that no booking or release occurred.
When Montgomery Bond Becomes Release
Montgomery County's Court Money instructions require the detained person's name, booking number, and correct cash-bond amount. Visa, Mastercard, and Discover payments are accepted at all hours. The published handling fee is at least $2, with eight percent charged on payments above $50. Court Money can be reached at 1-800-352-9870 for the payment process.
A receipt is not the actual release record. The jail must receive Court Money's notification before it proceeds, and a wrong amount or fee must be corrected through Court Money. Other holds or court directives can also matter. No official source states a standard number of minutes or hours from payment to departure. The booking and release record remains the best proof that processing finished.
The official Montgomery County bond procedure shows the dependency between payment and jail notification.
That sequence explains why a payment confirmation and a physical Montgomery County release may carry different times.
Montgomery County Booking Scale
The Jail Division reports about 1,500 bookings per year. This figure describes booking events. It is not an annual release count, a count of unique people, an average daily population, or proof of how long anyone remains in custody. One person can have more than one booking, and a transfer can end a booking without producing community release.
The same source describes four male units, one female unit, and one trustee unit. Every person booked is digitally photographed, and LiveScan fingerprints are linked to the Missouri State Highway Patrol repository. Those facts explain why a booking record exists, but they do not establish that every photograph is posted publicly or remains visible after departure.
Find Montgomery County Released Inmates
A named-person search starts by identifying the last custodian. Montgomery County Jail, MODOC, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and ICE use separate systems. Search observations should be reported precisely. “No longer listed” is not the same as “released,” and “not in BOP custody” does not rule out custody elsewhere.
- Use the sheriff's current-custody instructions or call the Jail Division. If the person is absent, ask whether departure was a community release or transfer.
- Request the specific booking and release event from the Administrative Division. Record the source date and agency identifier.
- Review Missouri Case.net for bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, probation, and later docket events tied to the same case.
- If MODOC had custody or supervision, search by name, alias, or DOC number, then distinguish an institution from a field supervision location.
- Use VINELink or MOVANS as a status and notification lead, while recognizing that county jail participation was not independently confirmed.
- For a federal case, use BOP. For immigration detention, use the current ICE locator and treat a nonmatch as inconclusive.
- If no live view answers the question, use the appropriate sheriff, DOC, Parole Board, or court records channel.
A person who leaves the Montgomery County roster may have gone home or changed custodians. Confirm the destination field before calling the event a release.
MODOC Search After Montgomery Release
The Missouri DOC Offender Search covers active prisoners, probationers, and parolees. Its warning says discharged offenders are excluded. A person found at a field location may be out of prison but still on probation, parole, or conditional release. A person missing after final discharge requires a historical or records channel, not the conclusion that no DOC event exists.
| Search or data field | Use and limit |
|---|---|
| First and last name, aliases | Live lookup for an active offender; spelling can block a match |
| Permanent DOC number | Stronger identity match than name alone |
| Assigned place and location type | Distinguishes an institution from field supervision |
| Cause number and sentencing county | Connects the DOC row to the right case |
| Completed Flag | Historical nightly-file indicator, not a live-search release label |
| Maximum and minimum release dates | Documented sentence fields that still require corroboration |
The live MODOC search screen gives the crucial limitation that discharged offenders are excluded.
For historical work, the DOC Sunshine page offers a nightly compressed file, layout documentation, and an offender-record request route. Its special date codes and data warning make corroboration necessary.
Montgomery County Release Feed Limits
The sheriff does not publish a verified 24-hour or 72-hour released-person feed. Its Incarcerated Detainees instructions give a custody telephone number and direct users to the official mobile app's Weekly Booking Report PDFs. Weekly booking is not a release archive. Public material does not document a release-date field, update day, archive duration, correction cadence, or complete field list.
The official custody screen below shows what Montgomery County offers and must not be relabeled as a release list.
For a same-day event, call 573-564-8086, ask whether departure was release or transfer, and request the event record. Broader feed-specific fallback steps appear on the 24-Hour Releases page.
Montgomery Release or Court Transport
The sheriff's Court Services Division executes court directives, serves writs, transports detained people to and from court, and handles extradition on Montgomery County warrants. Physical movement can therefore be a court trip or transfer rather than freedom in the community. Ask for the receiving authority or destination whenever the jail says a person departed.
Missouri Case.net can show charges, judgments, bond entries, dismissal, sentence, probation, hearings, and other docket events. It explains legal authority but may not record the jail-door time. A bond order can precede processing, and a dismissal in one case can coexist with another hold. Match the docket and sheriff record by name, case, booking, and event date.
The official Case.net landing screen confirms that the court search is separate from the jail record.
Manual review is required because automated access may be blocked. Keep the court action and completed release as separate facts.
Montgomery Release Supervision District
Current Missouri DOC material assigns Montgomery County to District 16 in Union. The office serves Montgomery, Warren, Gasconade, and Franklin counties from #3 Truman Court, Union, MO 63084, at 636-583-8933. That office can help confirm active state community supervision. It cannot by itself certify that someone left Montgomery County Jail.
An older Fulton Community Supervision Center resource guide includes Montgomery-area program history, such as a Bridgeway reference in Montgomery City. It conflicts with the current office assignment and should be treated only as an old lead that needs reconfirmation. Current District 16 information controls when verifying court-ordered probation, Parole Board release, conditional release, or final discharge.
Property After Montgomery County Release
Montgomery County's property policy lets a detained person sign a form that releases property or valuables to a named recipient, who acknowledges receipt. Money and clothing may be released only to the detained person or a transporting agency. When a person is released from the facility, remaining funds are placed on a debit card.
These rules show why property handling can help interpret a departure without proving its legal basis. A transporting agency receiving clothing or money suggests continued movement under custody, while a debit card is tied to release from the facility. Neither fact states whether the reason was bond, time served, dismissal, sentence completion, or another event. The release record and court case supply that context.
The official property and funds instructions show the local Montgomery County distinctions.
Ask the Jail Division about the identified booking if property handling and the recorded destination do not align.
Getting Home After Montgomery Release
OATS Transit serves Montgomery County and is open to anyone. Its published reservation line hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with next-day service requested by 1:00 p.m. Published fares are $2 in town, $3 within the county, and $4 to an adjacent county. The Montgomery contact is 660-415-0901, and the general number is 800-654-6287.
OATS does not identify the jail as a stop and does not promise an on-demand gate pickup. It is an advance-arrangement possibility, not transportation provided upon release. A planned ride should be confirmed with OATS and coordinated around an official release estimate, while recognizing that bond processing, court action, another hold, or transfer can change departure time.
Montgomery Release Alerts and Locators
Missouri uses MOVANS for DOC custody and victim notification. Verified notices can include custody location, scheduled release, parole hearings and results, escape, death, and release to the community for eligible registered recipients. Telephone users select a PIN, and automated calls continue until the correct PIN is entered. The PIN is private. Current email or text steps should be read from the live interface rather than guessed.
The Missouri VINELink route is a status and notification channel, not a certified Montgomery County release record. Local jail participation and the wording of a county released result were not independently verified. For a federal sentence, the BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and can show a release date or a “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” result. That means BOP no longer holds the person, not that no other custodian does.
ICE's locator is designed mainly for current detention. A missing result can reflect spelling, timing, scope, transfer, or another authority. No ICE, federal prison, or state prison was verified inside Montgomery County. These channels are contingency paths for an individual record, not evidence of local facilities.
Where Montgomery Release Records Appear
Use the system that matches the custody type and the question. Live custody views are good at showing current presence. Release records and historical channels answer what happened after a name disappeared.
| System | What it can show | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| County custody phone and Weekly Booking Report | Current custody or recent booking context | Not a verified release archive |
| Sheriff release or disposition record | Recorded departure, reason, and destination fields if maintained | Must be requested from the custodian |
| Case.net | Bond, judgment, dismissal, sentence, or probation | May not show physical departure time |
| MODOC live search | Active institution or field supervision | Finally discharged people are excluded |
| DOC nightly file or records request | Completed flag and sentence date fields | Data carries accuracy and timing warnings |
| BOP locator | Federal release date and BOP custody status | Does not rule out custody elsewhere |
Montgomery County Release Facility
Only the Montgomery County Jail was verified as a detention facility physically located in the county. It is operated by Sheriff Craig S. Allison's office at 211 East Third Street in Montgomery City. The Jail Division is reached at 573-564-8086, the main office at 573-564-8084, and dispatch at 573-564-3378.
A community release from this jail is confirmed through the Jail Division, the booking and release record, and the matching court case. A transfer to another county, MODOC, federal authority, or immigration custody makes the receiving agency the new custodian. State prisoners from Montgomery cases may be assigned anywhere MODOC chooses, so the place of conviction does not identify the prison location.
Is a missing name proof of release? No. It shows only that the person was not found in the checked view at that time. Confirm identity, booking, case, destination, source, and retrieval date before describing the event.
